The workshop is focused around an inconspicuous decline from our evolutionary ancestors – the tail bone. Built on a somatic approach to the body and movement, My Tail and I invites families to accompany and take action in the physical process of becoming creatures called humans. With a humorous atmosphere and in a form appropriate for the youngest audience, the workshop asks: How many tails do we have? How do we feel them? How can they support us in our daily lives? How can they feed our movement and our imagination?
The workshops will be supported by tail-objects. The performance is an artistic response to one of the contemporary plagues of civilization, which is freezing for a long time without moving (very often in the front of our screens). Long-term freezing often means cutting off valuable signals flowing from the body. One of the main goals of the workshops is to deepen the awareness of the body and encourage participants to enjoy the common family dance.
My Tail and I is a clear gesture emphasizing the great importance of early artistic experiences, embracing an open and critical attitude towards art, respect for the diversity (intergenerational and bodily) of every being, and strengthening family bonds. All the participants – families as well as the adult professional participants – will be invited to move and give the creative feedback to the facilitator of the workshop.
Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.

About the Artists
Holobiont Collective is a recognized Polish group. Originally established by two artists, Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska and Hanna Bylka-Kanecka, producer Karolina Wycisk joined the team in 2022. Their creative interest is in interdisciplinary, multi-generational choreography projects for families. The work of the collective is based on the assumption that every participant of the performance – regardless of age and experience – is a fully competent recipient of the performing arts. Their performances include ‘roundABOUT’ (2017), ‘Moonland’ (2018), ‘_on_line__’ (2018), ‘Where shapes have necks’ (2019) and ‘My Tail and I (2021, co-organised by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the 'PolandDances / Choreographic residencies' program). Holobiont Collective is a member of the Young Dance Network.
Hanna Bylka-Kanecka / Holobiont Collective: Hanna is the initiator and co-founder of the Holobiont Collective. The collective’s works have been shown all over Poland, at major reviews and performing arts events for children, and abroad. In 2023, thanks to a grant from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, she created her first independent work – an interactive solo Somatulki aimed at children in kindergartens. Since 2018, she has been the content supervisor of the 'Roztańczone Rodziny (Dancing Families) program' (www.dancingfamilies.org).
This is the first initiative in Poland focused on the development of contemporary dance and experimental choreography for families, operating continuously since 2011, with the Performat Foundation providing production supervision. Project-wise, she works closely with the Children’s Art Center in Poznań, where, among other things, she co-curated with Joanna Żygowska a Forum on contemporary dance and choreography for young audiences. Since 2022, she has been a board member of the Young Dance Network. She has published in “Contemporary Culture” and “Didaskalia,” among others. In her creative and research work, she is interested in the intersections between psychoanalysis, somatic practices, posthumanism and childhood studies. Her greatest artistic inspiration comes from bodily observation of the various colors of her own motherhood.
