This roundtable, on the topic of the role of the online format in TYA, is a chance to have brainstorm with fellow theatre professionals from around the world about the role and position of international online educational projects within the TYA field as well as to meet potential partners to expand collaborations with. My “Better than Us” project was first programmed, organised, and carried out online in the beginning of May 2019. It is an online festival for an international group of young theatre amateurs who each watch five selected productions and then discuss each of them with its creators and with TYA professionals from around the world. Having now produced three editions of this festival, I keep thinking about the present and future of such projects. I believe online can never substitute live intercultural exchange. Theatre is a live art and youngsters from different countries need to meet - we all need not only to think and to discuss but also just to BE together. However, thinking about what is going on in the world and WHY it is happening we cannot help but reconsider our attitude to online international projects. Maybe participants should meet online first for some thematic sessions before travelling to meet at a festival? Maybe we could use online projects to better prepare for our live events?
