The Young Dance Network, an International Professional Network of ASSITEJ International, is hosting its General Meeting at the ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering 2023 (Serbia). The Young Dance Network aspires to create a space for long-term networking and development which provides choreographers, dancers, and dramaturgs working across the field with a robust platform from which they can work, develop, and energise the field of contemporary dance for children and young people. The Network aims to enhance methods for sharing competencies regarding dance for young audiences. It hopes to create strong bonds between artists, unite interested parties, explore common points of interest, provoke new inspirations, and launch collaborative projects and exchanges. We are interested in supporting the multiple languages of dance and physicality and their potential to cross the linguistic borders that can sometimes separate us. We are passionate about promoting dance as both a permanent form of cultural expression that embodies particular traditions, histories, and contexts and as a contemporary tool with which people can connect with one another. We feel that artistic work in dance for young audiences has not yet received appropriate attention, even where the contemporary dance scene is vibrant.
