In 2018, queer feminist guerilla performance makers Gold Satino were commissioned to make a kids show. The result was This is Grayson, an award-winning, site-specific, immersive, and experimental work for children and their accompanying adults. In this informal session, Writer/Director Davina Wright, and Producer Xavier O'Shannessy, share their insights into why their radically intimate, surreal and, sometimes, dark performance style was an unexpectedly perfect match for children aged eight and up. Davina and Xavier will present excerpts from This is Grayson, some context on why it's important for younger queer audiences to see a queer world onstage, and why Gold Satino insists on giving children agency in the imaging of work made for them. This session will include some time for questions and discussion. In fact, we encourage it!
