Tiny Humans, Big Wonder: Dramaturgy and Theatre for the Very Young
Tiny Humans, Big Wonder will present the findings of PlayLab residencies, programmes designed for young people (aged up to six) acting as dramaturgs. By using nature as metaphor to explore how we can create a better world together, we designed a theatrical experience with young people. The programme works by offering emotional support whilst exploring linguistic boundaries and utilising non-linear storytelling. These residencies were designed to be a step towards creating a dramaturgical framework of Theatre for Early Years that creates safe, inclusive spaces for young people. A sense of wonder, and the construction of collaborative spectatorship, permeates the programme. The PlayLab residencies, performances, and collaborative spectatorship with youth were specifically designed to develop valuable theatrical experiences for the very young that includes warmth, thoughtfulness, structural intelligence, and a delightful, balanced connection between researcher and artist. There is still so much we do not know about both the world around us and Theatre for the Very Young. Join us in our discovery!
