All Together Now: Sharing our Learning around Access & Inclusion in Theatre for Young Audiences at Young People’s Theatre and Across Canada
In Canada, access and inclusion is quickly becoming a national priority in the Arts. Young People’s Theatre (YPT) is a national producer and presenter of Theatre for Young Audiences – the first and largest of its kind in Canada. With our continued commitment to access and inclusion, YPT is leading the way in ensuring all young people have equitable access to performances and programs. Presenter Aimee Bouchard is the Education & Participation Programs Manager at YPT, and is responsible for coordinating access and inclusion initiatives such as Relaxed, Audio Described, and American Sign Language interpreted performances, and associated programming. She also represents Canada within the ASSITEJ International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN), supporting national and international dialogues around inclusivity in Theatre for Young Audiences. In this presentation, Aimee will share a snapshot of the successes, challenges, and most importantly, ongoing learning in access and inclusion that has been happening at YPT and nationally. Aimee will explore how YPT and other Canadian TYA practitioners are currently approaching — and can continue to improve our approach — to access and inclusion for Young Audiences so that together we can ensure all young people have equitable access to performances and programs in the Arts.
