‘Inclusivity’ in the Performing Arts has often been side-lined: treated as an afterthought, on the periphery, made by a handful of big-hearted individuals/organisations - or a tokenistic input designed to generate funding. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a noticeable and elevated awareness around the necessity of making the Performing arts Accessible. This invested energy and commitment in making TYA more accessible is the first step towards centring an inclusive practice - but what next? This talk is for those individuals who have the intention and interest in developing more accessible performances and festivals for young audiences but might not necessarily know where to begin. With over a decade’s worth of experience working with and for marginalised audiences, Jayne will share personal reflections and practical offerings for both individual practitioners and festival programmers seeking to make their performances and festivals more inclusive.
