Theatre Saves
National Centre ASSITEJ Ukraine

The first aim of this talk is to introduce the current role of theatre in the context of war in Ukraine. The second aim is to describe the importance and rethinking of Ukrainian cultural heritage in the modern Ukrainian theatre for children and youth, which is a strong tool of forming national identity and resisting hybrid war. We aim to share successful practices from ASSITEJ Ukraine members (arranging creative spaces in bomb shelters, making therapeutic performances, working with displacement of families with children etc.) on how theatre and theatre practices were used and are still used in times of crisis to support children and young people. The talk will include video and photo materials from different projects held in Ukraine in 2022-2024.
