Round table: Programming Inclusivity at Festivals - A Provocation.

 

A roundtable discussion in which creative experiences of inclusive practice in the context of festivals are shared, where practitioners can feel confident to reach out, ask questions, and learn together. We want to raise awareness that present practice leads to sustainable practice. Current members of IIAN and guests will talk about their work and open up the discussion based on their experiences of events and gatherings.

About the Artists

Ela Baumann holds an MA in music and dance from the Mozarteum University Salzburg with a specialization in inclusive music and dance education. She worked as an external coach and stage director for the inclusive collective Dadofonic in Luxembourg and Swedish inclusive theatre group BARDA. Her main passion lies in creating music and dance theatre for children. Baumann is a member of Kopla Bunz, a music and dance theater company in Luxembourg. Additionally, she serves as a board member for ASSITEJ Luxembourg and ASPRO Luxembourg, both of which focus on promoting inclusion on stage.

 

Marta Galli graduated in Theatre History from the University of Milan and studied acting at a drama school in Milan. In 2008, she founded ArteVOX Teatro. She has deepened her skills in cultural management, fundraising for culture, audience development, and internationalization of creative cultural enterprises. Passionate about Community Building and culturally based urban regeneration, she follows various projects in Milan. She is the Executive Manager of the National Children's Theatre Festival Vimercate dei Ragazzi and Project Manager of different international projects linked to the accessibility of young people with disabilities to the performing arts.

 

Aamir Nawaz is a diplomate in theatre studies. He is a theatre director, theatre educationist, theatre trainer and theatre light designer. He is founder, president and artistic Director of Maas Foundation. He is also General Secretary of ASSITEJ Pakistan. He is a board member of IIAN and co-chair of the steering committee of NG Network. He is also founder and member of the executive committee of South Asian Theatre Association. He was the Global fellow of International Society for Performing Arts in 2022 and 2023.

 

Ginni Manning is a playwright, theatre maker and writer from Liverpool, UK. She is a board member of IIAN and a leadership member of Write Local, Play Global. She has been awarded a grant from Arts Council England to explore the role of the playwright in TYA, looking at accessibility in the creative process.

 

Stavros Stavrou is a writer, cultural manager, producer and President of ASSITEJ Cyprus. He holds a BA degree in Greek Literature, as well as an MA degree in Arts Management and Cultural Policy, both from King's College London. Since 2012, he has worked in the theatre industry as writer and producer, collaborating with the National Theatres of Greece and Cyprus and independent companies. He has worked in the field of TYA as a producer, with his shows touring internationally. As a project manager, he has worked on numerous cultural projects. He has also released four books. He is the President of the Association for People with Mental Disability in Cyprus and a member of the Cyprus Centre of the ITI. He is also a board member of IIAN, and he was recently elected to the Executive Committee of ASSITEJ International.

 

Vicky Ireland has written for and acted on Radio, TV and Theatre. As Artistic Director of Polka Theatre, London, she directed, produced and commissioned new writing for children. Vicky was awarded an MBE in 2002 for services to children's drama, the first of its kind, and was elected a Fellow of The Royal Society for the Arts in 2008. She is an Artistic Associate Member of A Thousand Cranes Theatre, Founder and Ambassador of the charity Action for Children's Arts, Co-Founder and Secretary of the International Inclusive Arts Network and a Lifetime Achievement Award Winner and Honorary Member of ASSITEJ International.

 

Jerry Adesewo is the Founder and Artistic Director of Arojah Royal Theatre, producers of the Abuja International Theatre Festival and Awards, and the Abuja Children's Festival. His work extends beyond Nigeria, representing the country at international festivals including the SAND Festival in Norway and SWEDSTAGE in Sweden. Jerry holds several international positions, serving as the Nigeria/West African Coordinator for the UK-based INDRA Congress and as Chair of the International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN). His dedication to promoting theatre as a tool for social change and cultural expression has made him a respected figure both locally and internationally.

 

Lars Werner Thomsen is an IIAN board member. He holds a Diploma in Mediation of Arts and Culture for children and young people from The Danish National School of Performing Arts; trained as director at The Danish National School of Performing Arts, Department of further education and as an actor at The Arts Educational Schools, London, Drama. He was Artistic Director of Glad Theatre and is a member of ASSITEJ Denmark.

 

Jaume Belló is a Miró Social Integrator, Artivist, and Drama Teacher. He is responsible for and director of the theatrical project of the company with differently abled artists "La Màxima" of ILERSIS Private Foundation. After having worked with several professional artists in Theatre, Dance and Art, he has combined his artistic work with educational tasks in different centers, using theatre as a tool for education, social intervention and people mentoring. He was a Drama teacher and Project mentor at the CFGSTAT de Aula Municipal de Teatre de Lleida (2021), Coordinator of the Artistic Project Aula Social (2015-2021), Contemporary Theatre & Arts Reception's Mediator with audiences at Teatre de l'Escorxador, Lleida (2010-2016), and Playwright and Stage Director of Companyia de Teatre XIP XAP (1999-2012).

 

Jon Dafydd-Kidd is Head of PAWB (Participation) for leading Wales-based company Hijinx Theatre, and he collaborates with neurodivergent and/or learning-disabled communities across Wales. A trained Life Coach and Neuro-Linguistics Programming Practitioner, he supports creatives and leaders in Wales to develop and flourish in creating meaningful impact. He is serving his second term representing the UK as a member of the ASSITEJ International Committee. He is an ex-Chair of IIAN.
