About the Artists

Sibusiso 'Vonde-r' Fihlani is a young author, art-ivist, Drama therapist, and applied Drama/Theatre facilitator. He has worked at prestigious institutions such as the Soweto Theatre, Rural Health Advocacy Projects (RHAP), and NkosiHaven. Currently, he is pursuing his MA in Drama Therapy with the University of Witwatersrand. Additionally, Sibusiso is an Atlantic Senior Fellow with Tekano, an organization dedicated to ensuring health equity in South Africa.

 

An ardent advocate for fostering healthier relationships between fathers and children, Sibusiso facilitates theatre processes to assist clients in effectively processing their emotions. This involves contemplative reflection practice and reporting on individual and group well-being.

 

In addition to this work, Sibusiso is an acclaimed playwright and theatre maker. He has earned numerous awards, including the prestigious Dr John Kani Award for ‘Outstanding Theatre Performance, Direction, and Community-based Drama for Social Change,’ under the Wits School of Art. He has also been recognized with the Yvonne Banning Applied Drama Award for his exceptional ethnographic research in applied drama as a postgraduate student. Moreover, his contributions to research and advocacy have been acknowledged through the Justice Edwin Cameron Theatre for Human Rights Awards, among others.
