A Showcase & Reflection On Performance For Young Audiences In Canada

Our presentation is a three part session, with a video compilation of performances created for young audiences from across Canada.  A panel discussion with artists from across Canada will follow to reflect on the opportunities and challenges for Canadian  companies and artists creating work for young people that responds to a diverse and vast country. This discussion will lead into an embodied exercise where participants are encouraged to work in groups to create human sculptures that explore emerging themes and questions. The session will conclude with a collaborative activity to create large form puppets in response to the themes from the panel discussion, or based on participants’ impressions of Canada or something connected to the theme of 'Voices from a New World'.  The puppets will dance together to a selection of Canadian and Indigenous music from across Canada. We will lead them on a puppet parade outside. The panel discussion and puppet creation will be facilitated in English and French.
