Sharing Uncertainties: Scenic Poetics for Young Audiences in a Virtual Context
Between 2009 and 2019, Coletivo Antônia dedicated itself to scenic projects for early childhood. In 2020, our artistic work was abruptly interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, eager to reactivate scenic creations, we find ourselves faced with what this current historical moment presents - how do we develop a poetic relationship with babies in a virtual way?
If Theatre is the Art of the encounter and the encounter is the act of being in front of someone, is it truly for possible for ‘Theatre’ to exist virtually?; If Theatre is the Art of presence, is it possible to have a scenic presence in a digital space?; How do we establish complicity with babies through digital screens?; How do we provide sensitive experiences with cybernetic sensory limitations?; What aesthetic, ethical and political considerations are needed for those who make TYA in a digital environment?
In order to reinvigorate our artistic practices, we consider it necessary to reflect on experimental ethics and unimagined aesthetics to explore remote scenes with a virtual presence. This seminar shares some of our uncertainties about scenic poetics for young audiences in the virtual context. During the meeting, we will build a poetic labyrinth in search of answers to the many questions that challenge us.
