Revival of Ancient Nature Rituals
This lecture is about my practical research and experiences of running creative drama classes with children (aged 7 to 13) in the spring and summer of 2021. In Iran, we have a huge problem with water resources and have encountered serious drought. Meanwhile, two years of COVID lockdowns led to some classes being held outdoors - out in the heart of nature. I decided to work on adapting some Iranian rain-making rituals and ceremonies for these classes - I worked on some mythical stories about the god of water and rain and the demon of drought in ancient times. I have viewed this as a research project, recording and writing about all of these activities. Hosting creative drama class out in nature, reviving rain rituals, and narrating ancient stories / creative plays have all been great ways to talk and teach both directly and indirectly about the value of water and the ways we may preserve water resources.
